Wilkes-Barre, PA

Parishioners and friends,

It brings great sorrow for our parish to announce that on Tuesday, October 23, 2012, Father George Dimopoulos passed away unexpectedly at his home in Upper Darby. Our community was blessed to have Father Dimopoulos, a priest ordained to the priesthood for fifty-five years, serve as parish priest these past fourteen years. During this time, Father George contributed toward various ministries of the parish, the most prominent of which are ministries for parish fellowship, Greek education, and youth ministries.

A graduate of the Halki Theological Seminary, Father George was ordained to the Holy Priesthood on August 31, 1957. Before serving our parish, Father George served in the local Scranton and Upper Darby, PA churches, as well as in the Holy Trinity of Peran in Constantinople, in the Panagia Chalkeon of Thessaloniki, in the St. George and the Holy Annunciation parishes of Toronto, Canada, and in St. Eleftherios Church of Manhattan. Father George taught Orthodox theology in two seminaries, St. Tikhon’s Orthodox Theological Seminary and Savonarola Seminary of the Polish National Church in Scranton, PA.
